The Shortcut
Wendell and Floyd decided to take a brand-new shortcut to school. They walked along a dusty road hoping to make it to school on time.
“You found an awesome shortcut, Floyd,”Wendell said excitedly.
“Yeah I found it last night,” replied Floyd.
“Well it’s a good thing that-,” just then, Wendell was cut off by an ear tearing growl. Wendell and Floyd turned around and saw a giant wolf standing 16ft high and heading their way.
“Run,” shouted Floyd. They ran away, every step crucial to
escape capture. “We’re going to make it,” exclaimed Floyd. He just jinxed them.
His last word had barely escaped his mouth when a field of spikes came into
view.
Wendell and Floyd came to an abrupt halt. They turned around and saw the giant wolf still in pursuit but somehow they had made the gap between them larger.
“Grab the vines,” commanded Wendell. They swung from vine to vine until they landed safely on the other side. Meanwhile the giant wolf tried to stop itself from falling but just had too much momentum. It rolled into the field of spikes and died as it was speared by the sharp spikes.
“Now since that’s over let’s hurry. If we’re quick we could still make it to school on time.” Floyd explained. They hurried toward school but found themselves in front of a huge rock wall.
Wendell asked, “Now what?”
“Now we scale the wall to get to school.”It took them 15 minutes to get over the wall and down to the floor.
As soon as they were over the wall they could see the school. They ran straight past the double doors of the school, through the hallways, and into their classroom just as the school bell rang. They quickly sat down as their teacher called role and were still on time.
“Yes!” Wendell cheered silently.
